for more than 10years, i'm surprise i'm still in this dirt biking circle, though now have become a couch potato, but then, my observation

saw many new riders, very excitingly got their dirt bike, eagerly wanted to ride, but then, not many really actually set their bike up.

so here the poll

it is IMPORTANT to have your suspension set up to your body weight so that the bike will absorb the shock better, a poorly set up suspension will result in lost of control to bike, and for long term will injured ur body.

i'll start off by setting the sag. Then tweak the handlebar tilt to my riding style. Lastly loosen slightly the bolts on the clutch/brake clamps so that it will slide upwards during the dreaded first fall.... now we're good to ride....

My priority will be the suspension - correct spring rate. Getting experienced rider's advice is definitely one of the first thing i'm gonna do. Rookie, when u gonna try my set up and give me your feedback on the suspension? heee...thanks!

hmmm,every 1 seems 2 be talking abt suspension! but the most important thing is greasing yr bike b4 the maiden ride!
esp bikes with linkages,it won work well if the bearings r dry. heat do built up there 2.
so get everything grease all the nuts/bolts,bearings,shafts n u will be surprised how "light" the bike suddenly becomes! cheers

Here's what I do to my bikes when I first lay my hands on it and before riding it:
- inspect and grease the following
* steering head bearings
* swingarm bolt and bearings
* suspension linkages
- check and lube clutch/throttle cables
- service brakes (caliper, master cylinder, brake pads, brake disks, brake fluid, brake hoses)
- check wheel bearings
- de-restrict bike if not already done so
- clean/replace air filter
- tune carb to suit
- check valve clearances
- change oil and oli filter
- flush coolant if applicable
- setup controls (bars and levers) to personal preferences
- setup suspension (sag, spring rates, etc)
- install basic guards like handguards, bashplate

No wonder I don't get to ride much.
