got this from ktmtalk. 1998 was the first full production year for the KTM 200. In 98 and 99 they came with 45mm Marzocchi Conventional Forks. The engine's have been mostly the same forever. The 2000 - 2002 bikes were all the same as well, very minor changes. 43mm WP forks which aren't great, and the PDS shock isn't quite there yet either. Solid, bulletproof bikes not bad for trail riding or dual-sports, but their racing days are behing them. Some believe that these are some of the best years for the 200 motors, they really rip if you want them to. I had an 01 200 MXC and that was one of my favorite bikes ever. 2003-04 get the 48mm OC forks. I had an 04 and couldn't sell it fast enough. The thing wouldn't turn, couldn't get the suspension set-up to do anything I wanted it to. 05 was pretty much the same as the 03-04, but the frame was changed to more of an oval beam than the round tube in the past. Still didn't help things much if any. In 2004 they changed the look of the bike to the "Whale Tail" one piece rear end. The bikes would look like this through 2007. In 2006, that's when things started coming along. This is when KTM finally figured out the ideas they started in 2003. The 2006 and 07 are great bikes, and can be had for a decent price in good shape if you look around. These bikes can still be raced, even if they are a little long in the tooth, not much is being given up to the newer bikes, nothing that a better rider can't fix. 2008 the frame and bodywork changed again, and the next big suspension revolution came as well. Closed Chamber forks were introduced on the XC models while the XC-W still get the OC. The frame is the biggest step forward for the 200 since it's introduction IMHO. Great bike. The 2008 and 2009 200 XC's were the most desired due to the better forks on these bikes; the 2008 - 2011 200 XC-W saw minimal improvements from 2008-11. Pretty much all the same. 2012 brings in a new frame. 200 still produced XC-W only. Why, I'll never understand. 200 XC's are where it's at.

hahaha, rookie if u do get a 2012 exc .... than wat will u do will yr 144 sx? u wanna sell yr 144? there is a lot more hidden power in the 200 exc. i juz looked at a barrel of a 2010 exc n saw a lot of hidden power there due to casting n machining imperfections. well, time to get the grinder out for some cylinder work in the morning.
